Do you use antibiotics? Hormones? Steroids? Vaccines?

NOPE.  The cows born on our farm are 100% natural.  Our herd is now closed, meaning we don't bring in other cows and cow diseases.  Should one of our cows get sick, we'll absolutely treat them, but if it requires antibiotics, they won't end up on your table (like this sweet bottle bull).  And hormones and steroids?  Why?  They aren't headed to a bodybuilding competition.  Our calves stay on their mom's until they're ready to stop nursing, not when we think it's time to stop.  This gives us some BIG calves, and we love it!

Why do we avoid these things? One of our kids has Crohn's Disease.  She hasn't been able to eat beef without pain, EVER.  A few years back, we noticed that she could eat wild deer without any problems, and we decided to raise our cows (and pigs/chickens) in a similar manner.  Not surprisingly, not only is she in remission for the first time, she's also a HUGE beef eater now.  She still can't eat commercial beef without problems, but she loves our beef.  This isn't meant to be medical advice, just our experience with natural beef.  Talk to your GI if you have questions.

**The cows we used to start our herd came from a friend of Mike's.  He used more traditional ranching practices, but wasn't excessive.  Since they've arrived on our farm, they've enjoyed a natural existence.

What's up next?

Up next? First off, we'll have pork available beginning in February! Then, Sweet Tea, our A2/A2 Jersey dairy cow will be getting artificially inseminated with A2/A2 sexed semen.  Not only will this give us a new heifer, this will allow up to offer A2/A2 milk, butter, cream, and cheese!  We'll also be raising more meat chickens this spring, and hopefully, we'll have a big vegetable and cut flower garden.

Who has the most attitude on the farm?

Definitely Socks.  Or maybe Kinsey.  It's hard to say.  Did you know our first horse was named Sis? She refused to load and was a general P.I.T.A. just like her namesake.

Was this a good idea?

No.  Lessons were learned.  #1.  Preg checking cows is NOT a shorts activity, even for a girl from Arizona.  #2. Mike apparently fed the cows something spicy.  EWWWW.  #3. Regina Phalange is NOT pregnant.

Plot Twist - she WAS pregnant.  I just have short arms and Angus cows are huge.

What do you do for fun?

Tractor rides.  It is a farm!  What did you expect? We also burn things.

Who are the useless animals?  WHY?

Cheech is our sheep.  Someday, we might learn to make things with wool.  Until then, he's just cute.  He lives with Jeremy Jeffries, our Nubian goat, and Ice Cream, our Nigerian Dwarf goat. We also have two kittens who like to share their food with the barn mice instead of using the barn mice AS food.  Why these guys all get a free ride?  Have you ever seen how cute a baby animal is???
